Overview

A leisurely stroll through Wynyard Quarter during October is visually breathtaking on a normal day, so you can imagine the degree of aesthetic hype buzzing around the waterfront when the New Zealand National Geographic Photographer of the Year rolls around again.

For one month, the brightly coloured shipping crates of Auckland's waterfront will become an "image forest" of the country's natural and cultural anomalies captured by some of Aotearoa's most talented photographic artists - including finalists of this year's awards and past recipients.

The finalists for 2015 span five categories; Wildlife, Landscape, Society & Culture, Photo Story and (for the first year ever) Time Lapse. If photography is something you're passionately opinionated about (or even something you're mildly opinionated about), there's also a chance for you to be the critic and vote for your favourite picture as part of the People's Choice award, with the winners announced late October.

World-class photography produced by Kiwis displayed right on our own doorstep for an entire month, the New Zealand National Geographic Photographer of the Year display is an October must-see.
