Overview

If you haven't headed to Onehunga recently, you're missing out. The south Auckland suburb is serving up some pretty delicious food and beverage offerings making it worth the drive for dinner — and there's free parking aplenty. The central city could never.

This month, the draw increases tenfold with the return of the annual progressive dining experience the Onehunga Culinary Crawl, returning for its third year as part of the 2022 Elemental AKL festival.

If you haven't heard of the crawl, it's a chance to sample some of Onehunga's best restaurants and bars — with an element of surprise attached. Diners meet at a starting venue — revealed when tickets are booked – for an appetiser and drink. After enjoying their first course, they'll set off on one of four surprise dining routes, enjoying a main and dessert at two other restaurants.

You won't know where you're headed until you get there, but if the lineup is anything to go by, we can pretty much guarantee it's going to be yum. The list includes Oneghunga's favourite pay-as-you-feel restaurant Everybody Eats, newcomer Slabs Pizza which specialises in Detroit deep square pizza, and Onehunga's only cocktail bar (and best-kept secret) The Bramble. All up, there are 10 venues taking part, as well as live entertainment along the way.

Taking place on Saturday, July 30, there are five sessions to choose from between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, with each session taking three hours and tickets setting you back $75. Come with an empty stomach and remember to wear sensible shoes.
