Perplex

Blurred domestic boundaries feat. an elk, Nietzsche, a Nazi and nude discussions of Darwin.

November 07, 2016

Overview

"Couple A arrive home from holiday to find their house out of sorts. Couple B had been housesitting and haven't paid the electricity bill. Couple B arrive home to find that Couple A have let themselves in and have moved their things around."

If the first act of German playwright Marius von Maybenburg's Perplex sounds a bit, well, perplexing, you're not alone. Perplex is a morphing, nonsensical domestic play where actors and spaces constantly change shape and even an elk, Nietzche, a Nazi and nude discussions of Darwin find their ways into the plot. (Don't ask me how.)

For those who like plays that pull the rug from under you only to reveal that it was the ceiling all along, Perplex should definitely have a slot in your calendar.
