Overview
Move over Pac Man, make way for the Meeplings. From kiwis to alien invasions, Noah's ark to an office party at the end of the world; at the Pop-Up Games Arcade there's every kind of bizarre challenge you could ever hope for.
It's not so much your traditional arcade, but something more along the lines of an interactive art exhibition which showcases Auckland's many talented DIY game makers. From award winners and experienced game designers to students and illustrators, the Pop-Up Arcade offers a unique experience of the weird and wonderful imaginations of local creatives and tech wizards.
Experience award winner Michael Brough's abstract playing field in Smesport and Lianne Booton's beautifully crafted characters in animation. Try your hand at saving the planet from global warming in Noah More Heroes or challenge your mates to a battle of wit in Word Wars.
The Pop-Up Arcade is an all-ages event for anyone who's after something a little bit different. The arcade itself is made from old computers, up-cycled into art with paint, chalk, and googly eyes. It's messy, colourful and strange – just like the games.
The Pop-Up Games Arcade is behind the Bread and Butter Letter (walk down the driveway next to the shaver shop on Pitt Street) and entry is $5 cash at the door.
