Overview

The New Zealand Dance Company’s first full-length work Rotunda features a live brass band alongside the raw beauty of contemporary dance. Created by the company’s artistic director Shona McCullagh in collaboration with NZDC dancers and musicians Chris O’Connor and Don McGlashan, Rotunda brings to life the world of the band rotunda.

Produced in preparation for the ANZAC centenary, the performers take the audience on a journey at the heart of change and crisis. Contemporary brass music is woven with traditional hymns to conjure the emotional landscape of a seminal time in our nation’s history.

With a gorgeously transformative set by Joe Bleakley and striking costuming by Jane Holland, Rotunda resonates with contemporary culture where conflict, both political and personal continues to challenge us.
