Overview
Here in Auckland, there aren't many opportunities to connect with Russian culture. Lucky for you, the good folks at Rialto are hosting the Russian Resurrection Film Festival before it heads off on a tour of Australia.
One of the largest festivals featuring Russian cinema outside of Russia, from thrillers to romance and even historical epics created for Stalin, this film fest has it all.
With a wide range of films to treat yourself to, one of the festival highlights would have to be the Kirill Serebrennikov film fresh from Cannes, The Student. The film centers around the story of a teenage christian fanatic as he rejects his agnostic upbringing and delves further and further into literal interpretations of the bible.
If you're keen to entertain the young ones in your life, why not take them along to see Sinbad: Pirates of the Seven Storms, a tale of a young cheerful pirate who is far from the most successful pirate sailing the seas. With the discovery of an ancient map, he sets sail to Skeleton Island and here is where the adventures begin.
There's twenty films to choose from so start clearing your calendar now — and check out our top five picks.
