Overview
Safe in Sound is a unique art project which involves local artists, graphic designers and tattooists and some seriously snazzy shoes. In support of Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre artists are lending their talents to wearable canvas, each being given a pair of Nike Air Force 1 trainers to unleash their creative genius on.
Aucklanders will be able to admire the fancy footwear for the month of August at Fukuko and the Nike store at Britomart. At the end of the month the Safe in Sound sneakers will be auctioned off and the proceeds donated directly to Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre. It's the only centre of its kind in the country, offering music therapy to youngsters with all kinds of special needs.
Safe in Sound is a collaboration between W1 and non-for-profit charity One Percent Collective, which makes it easy for people to donate 1% of their income to charities of their choice. Artists include Otis Frizzell, Billy Apple, Dean and Dan of Sacred Tattoo, Rainbow Monkey, Component and Trust Me of Cut Collective, Owen Dippie, Melissa Sharplin and Elliot Stewart. Safe in Sound kicks off with a launch party at Fukuko on August 1st and winds up with the auction on August 29th where a select few lucky punters will walk away with some brand new art.
