Overview

Ponsonby institution Prego will be given a makeover next month to mark the arrival of Marlborough winery Cloudy Bay to the neighbourhood. The transformation is part of a month-long pop-up which prompts diners to "sail away" and enjoy a moment of escapism by sampling some Cloudy Bay back vintages.

To bring the vision to life, a space that has never been used by the public will undergo a transformation to create a garden oasis. Landscape Architect Jared Lockhart has been enlisted to redesign the back courtyard and alleyway that runs parallel to the restaurant. To help bring the Cloudy Bay Sail Away fit-out to life he's used natural timbers, luscious greenery, low hanging ambient lighting.

As well as the new fit out, guests should also expect a Cloudy Bay slant on some classic Prego dishes as well as a few new additions. Prego's head chef Lennox Bull has created the tasting menu and inspired tapas menu matched to the current vintages.

A main feature of the menu is the Cloudy Bay Tasting Tray which sees three canapés paired with a Cloudy Bay wine. Guests can enjoy Applewood smoked duck breast served with Damson plum jelly, Kaikoura fromage blanc and sugar-cured lamb with polenta, pine nuts and kawakawa.
