Overview

We have partnered with the all-new clean soda Höpt to present a selection of the coolest, cleanest events in New Zealand.

Shapeshifting is a capacity or potential of sentient beings, a capability of organisms to auto-transformations, as responsive agency to their setting. Through this theme, the conference explores the transformative nature of fashion and how we might address its role in our future in relation to clothing, culture and technology.

According to fashion theorist and practitioner, Otto von Busch “Fashion is transformation. It is a promise of becoming a vessel of shapeshifting, a craft with which we can navigate across the currents of the social.” Hear him speak on the 'Conquest of Fashion', learn about Nick Cave's studio practice, design dynamic surface patterns with Marjan Kooroshniais or try a craft-tonic experiment with Elaine Ng Yan Ling.

Topics on the agenda are:

1. Ambiguous & Automated Forms: obscured or enigmatic silhouettes, experimental pattern-cutting, displacement design (chronological & physical), mechanised clothing.

2. Surface & Structural Transformations: alchemy/hybrid forms, disruptive patterns/ camouflage, bio-mimicry, shape-memory, illusion, fibretronics, e-textiles, smart fabrics.

3. The Fashion System & The Ephemeral: Identity, prescience, paradoxes, politics.

4. Transformational Strategies: Consumerism, services, social/media interfaces, sustainability, experiences, customisation, adaptation, transformation, agility.

With three days' worth of hands on workshops, demonstrations, panel sessions, performances, exhibitions and social events Shapeshifting: Transformative Paradigms of Fashion is an invitation for inspiration.
