Overview
Good news for those who curl up at the thought of sitting through a two-hour blockbuster. New Zealand's leading international short film festival, Show Me Shorts, is back with an eclectic programme of bite-sized cinematic gems for 2016.
For its 11th year the festival will showcase 47 short films at more than 20 cinemas from Kaitaia to Stewart Island, and now for the first time, Scott Base in Antarctica. From 1,500 submissions from more than 60 countries the final selection includes 19 New Zealand short films, 23 international short films and five local music videos.
Local short Shout at the Ground will see its world premiere at the festival. The raucous road-trip 'vom-com' follows a rock band on tour, racing to the ferry crossing, while they deconstruct a heist that robbed them of the door-take from their gig. Award-winning animation director James Cunningham's new family-friendly film, Kitten Witch will also make its debut outing. Other New Zealand-made world premieres include: Break in the Weather, Long Time Coming, Eight Years Later, Fract and Unfaithful.
International films making their world premiere include Adnan Zandi's Butterflies, ambitious American sci-fi Icarus, and dystopian animation Fabricated.
