Overview

For their first New Zealand show in 13 years, indie-rock trio Sleater-Kinney will take the stage at iconic Auckland venue the Powerstation.

The highly-influential group, made up of dual guitarists/vocalists Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein, and drummer Janet Weiss, came out of the ’90s Pacific Northwest riot grrrl movement, producing seven albums of free-thinking punk in ten years. In line with their unshackled sound, the group's lyrical content delves into left-leaning politics, rebellion, feminism and sticking it to the man - a staunch combination that spun off labels like "America's best punk band ever" by Rolling Stone magazine.

After a decade-long hiatus, the members returned to the studio to pump out their eighth release. No Cities To Love in January 2015, since being described as "a thoroughly raging collection of post-punk anthems" and topping several "Best Albums of 2015" lists. The band's forthcoming visit to Auckland is part of a worldwide tour supporting the album.
