Overview

Soulfest, like its name promises, is a festival of soul (or to be more specific: neo soul, R&B, jazz and hip hop - musical genres which are all pretty much familial relations through soul).

Soul originated in the States during the 1950s - combining African-American gospel with rhythm and blues and jazz. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes the genre as "music that arose out of the black experience in America through the transmutation of gospel and rhythm & blues into a form of funky, secular testifying."
