Overview

The Auckland Fringe Festival kicks off on February 9 with an eclectic range of events taking over every nook and cranny across the city.

To give locals a taste of what to expect at this year's three-week festival, fringe participants will set up inside Aotea Square to showcase their weird and wonderful arty experiences. Each night from February 9 to March 1 the Square Soapbox will see artists perform 10-minute renditions of their performances. A line-up of actors, comedians, poets, musicians and DJs will also be on hand to entertain.

This year's previews include: a performance from Auckland big band Sal Valentine and The Babyshakes, a theatrical demonstration from the Binge Culture Collective, the show Bright Futures, and improv from Snort featuring comedians Rose Matefeo and Guy Montgomery.

Across the fringe, attendees can also expect everything from: an interactive pavement whale stranding, a bachelesbian sex education lesson, a guided tour around 1980s Ponsonby, among plenty of other things.
