Overview

If you've ever wanted to hear a full orchestra blast out the song that accompanied Rocky punching raw flesh in a refrigerator, then hold on to your top hat. Before launching into its full 2018 season, the prestigious New Zealand Symphony Orchestra will take on music from the big screen.

Led by Associate Conductor Hamish McKeich, the orchestra will perform some of the most iconic themes in movie history, including the music of Vangelis (Chariots of Fire), John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Schindler's List), Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future), Bill Conti (Rocky), Max Steiner (Casablanca) and Danny Elfman (Spider-Man).

The Summer Pops: Music from the Movies series will be held from February 9 to 17 in five centres. It will serve as a warm up before the orchestra takes on John Williams' legendary score from Star Wars: A New Hope for the New Zealand Festival.
