Overview

The usual schedule of Silo Park events might have been put on hold for summer, but the waterfront community space is back this weekend with a one-off celebration of art, kai and culture.

Between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, 13 and Sunday, 14 March, the waterfront venue will host free activations for the whole whānau, including waka stories, workshops and music. Soul powerhouse Bella Kalolo will be taking the Silo Park stage on the Saturday, while Laughton Kora brings his honeyed vocals on Sunday. A live DJ will fill in the gaps.

Free and interactive workshops include the carving of a traditional ocean-going waka, the crafting of manu aute (coastal bird kites) and screen printing ancient patterns on bags to take home. All materials are supplied. A healing lounge will serve as the perfect space to experience Māori and Maoli (Hawai'ian) healing with pani (balms). Each session costs $40 per session.

Elsewhere, Charles and Janine Williams will showcase a stunning installation of their works, embracing the coastal bird narrative, and the Silo Park markets will be running both days with offerings from Māori artisans and delicious kai.
