Overview

According to Wired Magazine, the TED 2016 conference held in Vancouver from February 15 to 22 was the "antidote to this year's nasty election". Each year, the opening night of the conference attracts a stage of legendary speakers, and an equally illustrious VIP audience of thought leaders, academics, pioneers and innovative thinkers. And now for the first time, the general public will have the opportunity to experience the opening night event thanks to a theatrical release screened in cinemas worldwide – including two sessions at Auckland's Rialto Cinema.

With the 2016 conference gathering speakers under the hopeful and energetic directive 'Dream', the central chord of the to-be-screened Session One is "Our Tomorrow". Hosted by TED's curator Chris Anderson, the 90-minute screening encapsulates talks by seven storytellers from far-reaching disciplines and backgrounds.

Ishita Katyal, child author of Simran's Diary wants adults to stop asking kids what they want to be when they grow up; Astro Teller, "Captain of Moonshots", heads up Google's X factory for audacious ideas that could reshape our lives; Riccardo Sabatini applies numerical modelling to crack the code of life; AR Rahman is the king of Bollywood soundtracks and has scored hundreds of films, as well as Slumdog Millionaire; Dan Pallotta is a charity defender extraordinaire aiming to fundamentally change the way we think about giving; Shonda Rhimes is one of Hollywood's most influential producers, known for her ground breaking storytelling; Bill T. Jones is a highly-awarded choreographer who has inspired a generation of dancers with this contemporary works.
