Overview

Wanting to do something completely different? Well you might just have found it. Part of 2016's Auckland Arts Festival, The Chorus; Oedipus is a Korean theatre work that employs music, movement, and stage presence to re-create the well known Greek tragedy.

The show was a box office hit at 2014’s Singapore International Arts Festival and March will mark the show's New Zealand debut. The Straits Times from Singapore described the show as, "It is the journey, rather than the visible end, that becomes the fulcrum of this production - Oedipus becomes extraordinarily sympathetic even as he seems to tempt the gods with his insatiable curiosity and his profound need to dredge up the terrible secrets of his past."

The show will be performed in Korean but translated into English. It provides a unique opportunity to see a how story that has been performed widely for over 2,500 years has been given a new lease of life by a culture much different from that of Ancient Greece.
