Overview

One theatre director is on a Christmas mission; to knock the reindeer-themed socks off Levin. Attempting to revitalize the town's annual Christmas spectacle, the director of a play-within-a-play has lured celebrity guest cast members all the way from the bright lights of Auckland. With only 24 hours to rehearse before the show opens, these celebrities find themselves fighting to ensure their star-power still shines brighter than that of their local thespian stage-mates.

Audiences will be treated to a lucky dip of rotating cast, with a different famous face thrown amongst the chaos each show. Amanda Billing, Liv Tennet, Madeleine Sami, Nic Sampson, Laura Daniel, Dave Fane, Jaquie Brown, Robbie Magasiva, Louise Wallace and Jennifer Ward-Lealand are just some of the brave names up for the challenge of improvising their way through the evening.

The Opening Night Before Christmas is penned by the same brilliant duo that brought us the hilarious Camping earlier this year, Thomas Sainsbury and Chris Parker – with direction by the skillful Sam Snedden. Small town community theatre always promises plenty of larger-than-life personalities, and this Christmas bonanza (with a touch of fading celeb desperation) will be no exception.
