Overview

The Rutherford Trust Collection is a well-kept secret; a rich and diverse selection of artwork showcasing developments in New Zealand art over the last century. This is the first major showing since 2007, and the first time Auckland has been privy to such a rare treat.

The Rutherford Trust was established in 1988 as part of the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand’s (ECNZ) commitment to “encourage and enhance New Zealand’s cultural life and heritage”. Since then they have eld up their end of the deal by amassing a collection  featuring 140 works from the best in modern and contemporary New Zealand art. The works span from 1905 to 1997, focusing on the 80s and 90s, and celebrate artistic achievement rather than fashion.

The historic Pah Homestead is a fitting venue for the Rutherford Trust Collection and a lovely spot to grab a bite once you've had your eyeful. Built in the 1870s and beautifully restored, the homestead maintains most of its original character and fittings but has the added bonus of a cafe. You can take your tea on the verandah and finish off with walk in the grounds to check out the sculpture.
