Overview

Philip Ball is a celebrated and prolific science writer with 20 books to his name on a staggering breadth of topics.

He's written books about physics in Nazi Germany, pattern formation in nature, invisibility, and colour in art. His most popular book Critical Mass: How One Things Leads to Another examines social and economic phenomenon through mathematical models, looking at everything from Catastrophe Theory to the Prisoners Dilemma. He has also explored our emotional and biological relationship to music in The Music Instinct. New Zealand author Bernard Beckett joins him to talk about all things scientific.

This event is aimed at the science enthusiast, so while you won't need to go out and get a formal education in science to understand the talk, a casual understanding may help.
