Overview

Top Girls is here to kick the 2012 Silo year showing at Q Theatre. Originally written in the 80s, the play is a comment on the state of feminism and looking at woman's place in the workforce and the sacrifices that go with pursuing a top career.

Set over what can only be described as a dinner table of female power players, the story perfectly captures the contrasts and conflicts between American feminism and British socialist feminism during the 1980s. Despite the ideas surrounding professional gender equality nowadays, director, Shane Bosher, was interested in really questioning these projected social ideas.  He challenges us to ask  how far have women have really come in the past 30 years and what sacrifices are still being made to reach the top of the corporate ladder.

Top Girls stars Danielle Cormack as she makes her return to the Auckland stage for the first time since 2006. Cormack takes on the role of power dressing, HR girl Marlene, as she enters the world of cut-throat corporate business.  Other notables are Rima Te Wiata, Nancy Brunning and Bronwyn Bradley, Rachel Forman, Abigail Greenwood and Sophie Hambleton.

Showing at Q Theatre February 23 through to March 17. Monday and Tuesday shows begin at 7pm, Wednesday through to Saturday begin at 8pm.
