Verbatim

The reality of violence in New Zealand.

Overview

Not for those who prefer light rom-coms for a few cheap laughs, Verbatim is a production that consists of two powerful and confronting plays, each of which is centred on themes of violence, abuse and murder.

The first play, Verbatim is brought to you by William Brandt, the talented actor and writer who has featured on New Zealand screens since his role in Where Did the White Go in 1990, and Miranda Harcourt whose long running acting career has seen her star in the 80’s series Gloss, Dirty Creature and of course Shorty St. Harcourt was also involved in the creation of the second play in the production, Portraits. She developed this drama alongside Stuart McKensie who might be best known for his award-winnign short film The Mouth and the Truth.

The two plays are the product of a series of interviews with violent offenders, victims, families and bystanders. The true stories are re-enacted to illustrate the reality of violence in New Zealand, and they don’t leave out the gory stuff. The result is an amazing, hard-hitting, heart-wrenching show, but this one is not for those with a weak stomach.
