Overview

2018 marks 178 years since Rangatira Māori and representatives of the Crown signed the Treaty of Waitangi. This Tuesday 6 February, community hub Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, together with Auckland Council, will celebrate the occasion with a fun and informative day out at Okahu Bay, Ōrākei.

The free community event will feature local musicians on the main stage, including Troy Kingi, Maimoa Music, DJ T1R, Ihi, Te Rau Manu and the Te Puru o Tamaki Kaumatua kapahaka group. A range of stalls will be on hand offering delicious kai, there will be an arts and crafts lane, interactive games and activities, and a mobile Treaty exhibition from Auckland Museum.

As a family friendly event, the 2018 Waitangi Day celebrations will be strictly smoke, drug and alcohol-free, with a focus on zero waste.
