Waterfront Family Art Walk

A guide to local works you probably see on a day-to-day basis.

Overview

There are many great art installations across the Auckland CBD which showcase the extraordinary talent of local artists — some you may even walk past every day. But how much do you really know about the intention of each installation?

To celebrate Auckland Artweek, Heart of the City is providing free guided art tours with detailed explanations of works city-goers see on a day-to-day basis.

Did you know that the jumping fountains at Britomart are named Pipis and Pop Jets as a reference to the squirting of pipis? Artist Chaz Doherty created the work as a symbolic representation of early Maori food sources.

Every piece has had hours of thought and creativity poured into it for us just to look at. That is why the Waterfront Family Art Walk has been set up to inspire both kids and adults to take the time to acknowledge our artists' symbolic intent.

No bookings required, just show up.
