Wire

Expanding the sonic boundaries of rock.

Overview

Having transformed Auckland's Kings Arms into a sweaty mass of bodies during their last visit in 2011, British rock band Wire will upsize to the Powerstation on their return this Monday, February 17.

The band are often cited as one of the more important rock groups of the 1970s and 1980s, expanding the sonic boundaries of not just punk, but rock music in general. They are infamous for their refusal to play earlier material, and once even went as far as hiring a Wire tribute band as their own support act. In addition to supporting their 2013 release Change Becomes Us, the band will fortunately also showcase classics from their wide ranging repertoire. Joining founding members Colin Newman, Graham Lewis, and Robert “Gotobed” Grey is guitarist Matthew Simms, also known as frontman for UK indie band It Hugs Back.

Support from Auckland band Trustpunks.
