Overview
Auckland's no stranger to great tapas restaurants. Here's ten. Though when a restaurant lauded for "the best Spanish food in Australia" comes knocking we can't help but sit up, pay attention and develop a crying thirst for shared plates.
Legendary chef Frank Camorra is bringing his Melbourne restaurant MoVida to Auckland this month for four weeks of inventive food, tapas style. From August 18 to September 17, Camorra and his team will take over the kitchen at Josh Emmet's City Terrace, the casual sibling of Ostro.
Hailing from Barcelona, but raised in Australia, Camorra was inspired to replicate the flavours of his mother country following an excursion in the early 2000s. Beginning with a flagship eatery tucked away in Melbourne's graffiti-ridden Hosier Lane, the MoVida brand has since turned into a tapas empire, spinning off a five further establishments, including one in Bali and series of airport bars.
Our cohorts across the ditch particularly give praise to MoVida's squid ink croquattas, crispy pigs ears with guindillas, charcoal grilled asparagus, goat's curd and quince cigar, and the churros con chocolate for a mighty finish. It also serves as the perfect spot to down some seriously good Spanish wine.
Information about the menu for the Auckland MoVida pop-up is scare but if the above is anything to go by, you're in for a good time.
The MoVida pop-up takes place at Ostro City Terrace from Aug 18 – Sep 17. To make a reservation for up to 8 people email movida@seafarers.co.nz.
