Overview

The travelling chicken food truck, Just Chicken, has found its new nest on High Street. Perched near Albert Park this is an easy lunch time stop for the hungover and fried chicken lovers alike.

Just Chicken had humble beginnings, they started off serving at numerous festivals and events such as Movies in the Park and Auckland Fried Chicken Festival. Their aim was to spread their passion of "a simple and ethical approach to cooking the humble chook". This is shown through their free-range ingredients, homemade sauces and cooked to order in ethical packaging by their two owners known simply as Ray and Joel.

Finding the food truck was easy and so was choosing from the five-item menu. We ordered the C.L.T ($12), Spiceburger ($13), spiced wings ($10) and loaded fries ($9). Absolute chicken galore. The C.L.T was a succulent, free-range fried chicken fillet with lettuce, tomato, aioli and a toasted bun. The Spiceburger ($13) had almost identical ingredients except with a spiced chicken fillet and homemade chilli ginger jam instead of aioli. Good news, if you aren't good with spice you can still go for a Spiceburger and enjoy its flavours.

The spiced wings ($10) were lightly fried, and lightly spiced as well, served with mayo and chilli jam. These wings eaten with the loaded fries were enough as one meal. Loaded fries ($9) were waffle fries with chicken chilli, beans, corn kernels and a lot of melted cheese. Think nachos, but with fries. Amazing.

One of the owners was there cooking the food to perfection so make sure you leave a little bit of time for the skilful chicken architect to work his magic. He's a conversationalist, so the wait time went by without a complaint from anyone. Make a trip down to Just Chicken during your lunch time search for a cheap, yet delicious, snack. There is even a new small seating area for you to relax in while you rest and experience the appetising aroma of fried chicken.
