Kindred, a new opening by the waterfront, is a welcoming, fresh cafe taking on the big wigs in Wynyard Quarter.
The well-lit space is filled with refreshing decor which instantly welcomes you. They've taken residence right next to the newly opened ASB Theatre, catering to its clientele with pre-show menu offerings too.
The food on offer is much like a finer, better version of your mum's best home cooking. Simple, clean and filled with flavour, each morsel is refreshingly distinct from and healthier than most of the overly sauced and seasoned dishes on offer around Auckland. One doesn't easily leave Kindred feeling like they overdid it.
I stopped by Kindred for dinner and from the moment I picked up the menu, I couldn't look past the grilled prawns and crispy capers in burnt butter as an entree. As an avid seafood lover this dish was definitely not a letdown. I could quite happily snack on those crispy crustaceans all day. You can order by the prawn too, meaning that you can have as few or as many as your heart desires. For the main, I chose the Hapuka with cauliflower puree and fennel. It was delicious, light and wholesome.
Kindred takes a homely, simple approach to eating out. No matter if you are sweet toothed or more of the wholesome and savoury type, the menu caters to and delights all.
