Mutual Friends
A slick Newmarket opening offering decent coffee and savoury waffles.
Overview
Sticking its hand up as the facilitator of connecting and meeting is more often than not a decent cup of joe. Providing a space that aids exactly that is Newmarket's latest, Mutual Friends. Bryan Anderson, Sean Bone and Nick Fury have combined their industry experience together and the result is a succinct cafe experience certain to be a crowd pleaser.
Fronting collaborative workspace Qb Studios, not only do Mutual Friends dub as a foyer for the glass-walled office cubes, they spend their morning's brewing cups of Allpress's black gold and offering an extensive selection of cabinet food patrons can enjoy curb-side.
Head-nodding folk in, it would seem the guys behind the bar have adopted a somewhat relaxed approach to their latest venture. It's clear Mutual Friends has been stripped of the unnecessary. Here, guests can kick back and enjoy a good read, decent feed and an impressive brew, all under one roof — it's no more complicated than that.
Once inside, you almost feel encouraged to take some time out for yourself and relax in the refreshingly calm atmosphere they've created. The combination of indoor foliage and the waft of freshly ground coffee that gives Mutual Friends the makings of the ideal inner city oasis.
Presented in a glass cabinet are vegan slices, handcrafted sandwiches and house-made salads which alternate daily. Sure to subdue any hunger pangs, are their extensive range of waffle options. Becoming increasingly renowned for these breakfast delights, Mutual Friends offer a chicken and waffle combination that is an absolute winner in our books. Who would've thought waffles and chicken lightly coated in peri-peri was going to work so well? Keeping vegetarians in mind, there's also a veggie option of vine tomatoes, cheese and fresh basil. If you're one with a bit of a sweet tooth, turn your attention to their grilled banana and fresh strawberry compote waffle. We couldn't think of a better dish to ease into the day with.
It would seem Mutual Friends has really done their homework and have created a cafe space to be enjoyed by everyone.
