The New Zealand Coffee Co.

Something for the coffee connoisseurs to drool over.

Overview

The newly opened New Zealand Coffee Company proudly sits on the corner of Khyber Pass Road and Edward Wayte Place. Playing host to not only their head quarters but an elaborate roasting facility, a range of various coffee machinery which any coffee connoisseur would drool over and a quaint coffee shop perched on the outer road side of the establishment.

Upon arrival we were greeted by an abundance of parking, which is a rare delight to wave you down any Saturday morning in the suburb. With the welcoming committee of coffee aroma promptly beckoning us, in we decided to snag a table outside on the sun trapped deck. But be warned, there’s no shade in this desert, although some swifty hats are provided; if you tend to fry like an egg I recommend hitting the assortment of comfortable leather chairs inside.

However, before you settle into your seat you must order at the counter. These fellas' focus is the coffee (which is understandable from the name) so they only have a small selection cabinet food. Sitting proudly in the glass container are tasty bacon toasties, breakfast baps, muffins and muesli bowls.

So we order two flat whites ($4 each), a bacon toastie ($9) and chia seed muesli ($9). Before nestling back in we recommend you spend a moment perusing the shiny coffee paraphernalia and peering through the glass wall to the roasting room. I have to report though, to my disappointment, no sobbing celebrities were found.

Both the coffee and breakfast arrived promptly to the steaming hot copper table (slight oversight for a sun-scorched deck, be sure to avoid third degree elbow burns) and all was quickly scoffed and suckled down, replenishing the body back to optimum caffeine levels. The bacon toastie was a buttery love monkey served with corn chips, a strange, yet delicious, crunchy side kick and the chia seed muesli was well welcomed to a not-so-fresh-as-a-daisy morning mouth. But yes, the coffee is excellent; we’ve been back for a couple of takeaways in the interim.

All and all this light-filled industrial space screams 'local coffee hot spot' and is a well-welcomed addition to the Newton café scene (or lack thereof). It’s nice to have you here.
