Overview
Hunger, a busy city, and a tight budget are three things that can turn any lunch break into an indecisive nightmare. Viet Sandwich seems like the perfect solution; it's cheap, fairly nutritious, and reliably delicious.
With one already successful street food stall at AUT, Viet Sandwich has now added another location within the little community of vendors on Elliot Street, joining Box Of Bird, Waffle Supreme, and Coffix.
Clearly popular with Uni students, their freshly made $8 vegetarian bánh mi' (French baguette with Vietnamese fillings) have already become a hit with those roaming and lunch breaking around Eliliot Street. Located inside a small reinvented shipping container, the Viet Sandwich signage is simple, well designed, and surely one of the key ingredients to the eateries success. The staff are genuinely nice and seem to cope well with the large numbers of customers.
You can choose from a range of fillings for your baguette, our picks would be the classic chicken or beef, lemongrass chicken, or grilled pork. Each one is lovingly made in front of your eyes and includes pâté, mayo, and fresh salad ingredients. Originally operating with a sole focus on bánh mi', Viet Sandwich boasts noodle salads, and rice paper rolls on the menu. We tried the prawn rice paper rolls and they were bloody great, especially on a warm(ish) September day.
Tip: To avoid queues try and get there outside of traditional lunch time hours. Eat your bánh mi straight away while the bun is still soft and warm.
