Camping season is calling, with these standout Australian spots offering everything from wild swimming to alpacas and mountain views.
Unless you're a true backcountry obsessive, spring into summer is usually when a weekend or longer camping trip suddenly starts to sound much more appealing. So, it's a good thing the happy campers at Hipcamp have named the best spots for 2026 to pitch a tent — or park a caravan, or glamp it up or farmstay somewhere remote.
So, where can you find the best campsites in Australia? According to the experts, Tenterfield's Mindoo is a standout choice. Perched along the Cataract River, you'll rest your head alongside flowing cascades, swimming holes and native animals. Other excellent destinations include Ladybug Camping's creekside bliss in Northwest Tasmania, and Wild Nymboida Camping Dorrigo, featuring 200 acres of reception-free downtime.

If you're the kind of camper who appreciates a little more comfort, the winners of the best caravan spots have got you covered. Queensland is flush with options, with the Sunshine Coast teeming with spots to bring the rig. Think Yarra Creek Farm's mountain views and kayaking and Kenilworth Rural Camping's privacy and river fishing. Then, in Tasmania, Bruny Island's Woodleigh sees dense bushland meet Adventure Bay's stunning beachfront.

From this part of the Scenic Rim, you'll question heading back to your day job at all.
