Jobs at Concrete Playground

OVERVIEW

We're looking for a talented writer and editor with a passion for all the lifestyle sectors that fall within Concrete Playground's editorial patch: food & drink, things to do, arts & entertainment, travel and festivals.

In this role, you'll be responsible for curating and covering the week's best emerging stories and features across Auckland and Wellington to build Concrete Playground's presence and footprint in New Zealand.

You have great instincts for finding the strongest possible angle and most engaging headline, and you can deftly deliver news stories, writing and sharing them in a timely manner so they're as fresh as possible when they find our audience.

Working in to the ANZ News & Features Editor, you'll steer Concrete Playground NZ's output across the website, social media and e-news, independently developing story and feature ideas, and writing, editing and publishing content.

The ideal candidate will have an excellent understanding of social media platforms and experience working through a CMS (WordPress).

You are self-motivated, organised and comfortable working remotely (joining regular newsroom meetings with our Sydney-based Australian editorial team).

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You'll cover the best breaking stories across Auckland and Wellington, develop story and feature ideas, edit and write articles, and publish and share across social and e-newsletter.

Your day-to-day role includes:

  • Writing and editing news stories and features.
  • Juggling news with multiple competing deadlines and delivering website content in a timely fashion to our readers.
  • Fastidious sub-editing of our digital content, making images, text, video and links work together as a happy whole.
  • Strong grasp of social media and best practice in sharing stories across platforms to ensure the best possible results.
  • Building city-specific e-newsletters for our NZ audience.
  • Maintaining a network of contacts that you can tap into to stay on top of the latest in what's happening in Auckland and Wellington (and beyond).
  • Highly competent backend capabilities to build stories in WordPress with an awareness of SEO.
  • Happy to commission writers and/or photographers, as and when necessary.
