Not your usual Irish bar.

Overview

Eatery by day, bar by night is a fairly common blend. And, as far as pubs go, Irish ones are pretty common as well. Copperface Jacks brings both to the corner of Boundary and Edmonstone streets in West End, honing in on the all-hours flexibility of the former while jettisoning the gimmicky theming of the latter. It's a great kitchen and boozy hangout in one, as simple as that.

Taking its name from an 18th century Irish barrister and judge who was apparently fond of knocking back a few, Copperface Jacks is also the kind of place where you can have brekkie in the morning, then return for a few arvo bevs when the sun starts to set. Expect both options — and lunch and dinner, too — to spoil you for choice. And yes, we know what you're wondering, drinks-wise: both Guinness and Kilkenny are available on tap.

So, just what will you be washing down with those classic tipples (or one of the many wines, spirits and cocktails also on offer)? Breakfast includes both sweet and savoury pancake stacks, as well as a good ol' Copper's fry up. Throughout the rest of the day, you can spend a tenner on a BLT, steak sanga or baked potato for lunch, snack on chicken wings and onion rings, or dive deep into the trio of snags, a brisket burger or beer-battered barramundi. Plus, there's black pudding aplenty, as sourced from the local butcher, and served with potato and carrot hash, a soft-boiled egg and wilted spinach in the morning, with sea scallops on a small plate, and even on pizza.
