Overview

You should never be too far away from German beer, huge plates of pork and salty pretzels — or that seems to be Brisbane's new motto, at least. Just weeks after Munich Brauhaus opened its doors in South Bank, and a year after The Bavarian set up shop in Chermside, the city has now welcomed another huge Deutsch-themed haunt: the Bavarian Beerhaüs in the King Street precinct.

Along with Bavarian Bier Cafe at Eagle Street Pier, the whole lot are run by Rockpool Dining Group, if you're wondering who's responsible for this tasty German onslaught. For the company's latest effort, it has set up a 350-seat beer hall that takes inspiration from its RNA Showgrounds setting, all within the old Royal Snack Bar. Yes, that means brews paired with carnival-style food — as well as the expected pork overload, of course.

The Bavarian Beerhaüs boasts 40 beer taps pumping out a range of German draught beers, which the venue claims is the largest selection in Queensland. A selection of Australian craft beers is also on offer for those sipping brews in the 150-seat beer garden — or thirsty patrons can opt for a sizeable range of schnapps, espresso martinis on tap or frozen margaritas.

Food-wise, there are two components to the menu. Firstly, German-style dishes such as pork knuckle, pork belly, schnitzels, sausages and shared meat platters feature heavily, alongside barbecue fare like coffee-spice rubbed pork ribs and spice-rubbed wagyu. If it's something Ekka-style that you're after, however, then tuck into dagwood dogs, chicken wings, hot dogs, loaded fries and even a strawberry sundae. Even better — complimentary snacks, including mini loaded fries, dagwood dogs and chicken wings, are available with drinks between 4-6pm daily.

The entire place blends its brewhouse vibe with modern touches — think concrete, brick walls, an exposed ceiling and vintage decor — and throws in plenty of activities to keep the fairground theme going. Weekly ping pong tournaments, trivia nights, comedy and games afternoons are all part of Bavarian Beerhaüs' regular entertainment lineup, with two days of partying getting things started across May 26-27. That includes a two-day beer carnival, plus two days of 10-cent chicken wings and $2 hot dogs as well.
