Four Spots Dishing Out the Most Authentic Buffalo Wings in Brisbane

We might be a long way from upstate New York, but that doesn't mean you can't find fried chicken just as good (and without the long-haul flight).

Hailing from the USA, the buffalo wing is a deep-fried chicken wing coated with cayenne pepper sauce, butter, herbs and spices, usually served with a range of dipping sauces. Brisbane seems to have an affinity with these finger-licking bites of spice and sauciness, so it's no surprise that there's plenty of places where you can get your fix of high quality buffalo wings.

We've narrowed it down to the top four places where you can buy these spicy little suckers. From food trucks to German-style beer houses (of all places), here's our wrap up of the best buffalo wings in Brisbane.

    King of the Wings

If there’s one thing that Brisbanites can agree on, it’s that King of the Wings delivers some of the best buffalo wings in Brisbane. While it offers a range of tasty flavours — including a Southern-style spicy dry rub and Portuguese peri-peri — we recommend heading straight the Chillogy wings. These are King of the Wings’ Australian take on buffalo wings, which makes use of three types of Aussie chillies. Cheese from a six- or 12-pack depending on hunger.

King of Wings can be found at a variety of locations across Brisbane, including Howard Smith Wharves, Green Beacon and the Kangaroo Point Lookout. Check its Facebook page for its daily whereabouts.

Another American-style menu featuring buffalo wings to tickle your tastebuds is the aptly named Buffalo Bar. With ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ flavours to choose from —including maple mustard, the ominously named Hell-bound, parmesan chilli and bacon cheese and chives — Buffalo Bar boasts the charm of the Southern states, the bravado of New York and the cool of California, so you know you’re in for some true American-style fare. Head in on Saturdays to get them for half-price: $20 for one-kilo and $35 for two.

We know what you’re thinking: American style buffalo wings? At a German beer house? Never! But don’t fear, these Germans have definitely broadened their horizons to create a buffalo wing that is the perfect balance of mild and spicy. You can get 20 wings for just $20, and, on Wednesdays, all wings are just ten cents a pop.

    The Smoke BBQ

Smoke BBQ was one of Brisbane’s first American-style barbecue joints, so you can res assured it knows what it’s doing with its meat. While it does wings six different ways — including ones coated in honey soy, Kansas-style and super hot sauces — the buffalo wings are where it’s at. Smoke coats them in Franks Red Hot Sauce (a classic) and serves them with celery and dipping sauce. It’s $9 for five and $15 for ten.
