Overview

Back-to-back festivals, day spa dates, Sunday markets, afternoons at the pub: sounds like a busy social calendar, doesn't it? Lock 'em into your diary, but prepare to take a friend of the four-legged variety. If your pupper isn't just generally bounding with excitement because all puppers always are, then Brisbane's hectic array of doggo-friendly events is certain to do the trick. In fact, it'll have your furry BFF barking with excitement. Whether your pooch likes pampering, is the tiniest mutt you've ever seen or has a few party tricks, there's something on offer.

If it’s an adorable little barking creature, it’ll be in the spotlight at Welcome to Bowen Hills’ Tiny Dog Festival.  An all-round celebration of pint-sized pooches over a few pints, the fest will feature a tiny dog race and a best dressed tiny dog competition. Plus, the venue also wants to find Brissy’s tiniest adult dog, so prepare to spend a date staring at cute pooches that could fit in your pocket and saying “awwwwwww”.

For hungry attendees, the site’s food trucks and bars such as Mr Burger, Food Mood and The Wurst Dogs won’t just be catering to humans. L’Barkery will be serving up puppacinos and other doggie treats, and there’ll be beer (for you) and bone (for your four-legged friend) deals on offer.

Anything tiny dogs can do, big dogs can do too — and that includes swarming Brisbane’s new permanent food truck hangout with puppers of the super-sized variety. If it sounds familiar, that’s because the venue is following in its own paw prints and taking its other pooch party — the Tiny Dog Festival — to the opposite extreme.

Taking place the day after all things small and cute scurry through, this one will focus on massive mutts, whether you have your own or you’d like to meet others. In addition to bites to eat from the site’s food trucks, and just celebrating big dogs over a few beers, the fest will also feature a big dog race and a best dressed giant dog competition.

Doggy day spa and pet boutique Dogue has finally landed in Brisbane, with the group’s first Queensland store opening its doors in Bulimba. And your four-legged friends are definitely going to want to get involved in the launch celebrations, which’ll take over the Oxford Street boutique on Saturday, May 26.

The grand opening party has a program packed with fun for humans and pooches alike, kicking off at 10am with a Dogue goodie bag for the first 50 guests through the door. There’ll be face painting for kids and colour chalking for the dogs, a ‘pup-arazzi’ photo booth, plus grooming demonstrations in case you’re thinking of signing up your pup for a spot of pampering by Dogue’s team of experts. What’s more, you’ll likely head home with a few treats in tow, thanks to a swag of giveaways and a range of specials on both grooming services and products. And don’t forget the dapper outfits if you want to be in with a chance to take out the prize for Best Dressed Pooch.

Add another date into your doggo’s diary — a new dog festival is coming to town. On May 27, Newmarket Village is going to the dogs, but in a good way, thanks to the NewBARKet Dog Fest.

Take your pupper along from 11am till 3pm, with everything from pooch parades to puppy yoga to plenty of pats on offer. Pet photography, pampering sessions, dog first aid, and trick and obedience workshops are on the agenda too, so you can show off your four-legged best friend, make them feel special and teach them a thing or two.

Pups and pints: it’s a winning combination. And it’s just what’s on offer at The Brightside on May 27. Go barking mad for downing beers with your doggo best mate at a Barks & Brews session. With its appropriate name, the pooch-centric afternoon doesn’t really need to offer up anything more than just that — but, there’ll also be doggie photos for maximum cuteness, and dressing your fido up in adorable outfits is always welcome.

So grab your canine companion, flock to the beer garden and prepare to sink a few cold ones while enjoying some Brissie sun. And, expect to spend time in the company of plenty of other dog lovers and their pooches too. BYO frisbee.
