    The Balfour Kitchen

As far as best-kept secrets go, the rooftop at Spicers Balfour Hotel might just be one of Brisbane’s finest. Open exclusively to diners at The Balfour Kitchen and Bar in leafy New Farm, the rooftop offers one of the most spectacular vantage points to watch the sun set over the skyline of Fortitude Valley and the Story Bridge. Perfect for enjoying a few quiet drinks, such as a refreshing Jim Beam with soda and lemon, Spicers is just a short stroll from the Howard Smith Wharves precinct if you’re keen to kick on to a few more bars after dark.

Limes has been leading the Brisbane rooftop bar scene for years now, and it’s no wonder locals keep flocking back time and time again. With two spas (yes, really), an extensive drinks list (you name it, they’ve got it) and delicious eats, it’s a real crowd favourite. And then there’s the views — and there are plenty of vantage points from which to catch a glimpse of the sunset. But keep in mind, the rooftop is only open on Fridays and Saturdays. While you’re taking in the sights, order a Jim Beam with soda, or shake it up by pairing it with peach iced tea.

    Sixteen Antlers

If you happen to find yourself in the CBD come golden hour, head to Sixteen Antlers for a stellar view and a cool drink. Named for its roof branches reminiscent of a deer’s antlers, the intimate venue boasts a selection of boutique beers, quality wines and an impressive tapas menu — such as beef brisket sliders, salt and pepper squid, Tasmanian oysters and artisanal cheese boards. There are DJs spinning every Friday and Saturday evenings, too, which add to the ambience. After dark, the cityscape transforms into a twinkling CBD skyline as Brisbane fires up for the night.

    The Terrace

Arguably the most loved rooftop bar on the south side, The Terrace at Emporium Hotel offers stunning views over the CBD skyline and beyond, extending all the way towards Moreton Island. The openair rooftop bar and restaurant is fitted with a retractable ceiling and glass roof, so you can savour the subtropical climate year-round. However, there’s no denying the sunsets really peak during summer. Whether you’re in the market for a quick sunset cocktail, or are looking to extend a long lunch into the evening, this is the place for you.
