Since opening in 2023, The Naked Baker has been one of South Sydney's standout cafes, playing a major role in Mortdale's community vibe. As word of its maple croffle eggs benedict and chorizo eggs spreads around town, a second location has officially opened in Marrickville. While the brand has made its name on baked goods and classic brekky dishes, which all make the move north, the team is also putting out a new signature dish for the store's grand opening: a humble apple turnover, complete with miso caramel apple, nutmeg custard and flaky layers of croissant-laminated pastry. "I wanted to create something that tasted nostalgic," says The Naked Baker owner Dino Manoleskos, with the classic sweet treat a childhood favourite of his. "We've also developed two specialty drinks just for Marrickville, a Vietnamese salted cold foam latte and a blueberry matcha." On the corner of Addison Road and Fotheringham Lane, the new location offers an expansive, industrial space with capacity for 100 seated guests. Like the Mortdale original, Manoleskos wants customers to see the venue less as a pure bakery and more as a top-notch cafe that bakes, with everything from focaccia to Portuguese tarts made in-house. "I couldn't believe my luck when this space was available," he says. "We've also tried to create more of a restaurant-style feel, with nice crockery and stone tables, so guests can feel comfortable to stay for as long as they want." Like the Mortdale store, the kitchen in the Marrickville location is encased in glass, giving customers a front-row view of the baking happening inside - hence the name. Meanwhile, an extensive cream bench lined with glass cabinets greets customers with the day's delicacies as they step inside. Like what you see?
