You'll go nuts for O'Donuts. Viral Japanese nama doughnut specialist O'Donuts has opened a second location in Haymarket after its remarkable success at its Chatswood store. The Haymarket location will give more Sydneysiders a chance to try the signature soft, fluffy texture, along with coffees, matcha and fresh fruit sodas. "Through O'Donuts, I wanted to introduce more Australians to Nama donuts, a softer, airier style of donut known for its light texture. I saw an opportunity to move beyond the traditional idea of donuts as dessert and create something that fits naturally into everyday life," says O'Donuts CEO and Founder MaoTing Chiu. Nama, meaning "fresh" in Japanese, describes O'Donut's signature texture: a pillowy dough so soft it almost melts in your mouth. The doughnut creation process here is taken seriously and involves more than 16 hours of low-temperature fermentation. The team also blends pumpkin into the dough, helping keep the doughnuts moist, delicate, and super soft. "I've always admired the Japanese shokunin mindset. It's about paying attention to the small details and always trying to make things better. That's why we work in small batches and make everything fresh in-store every day, from the dough to the fillings," says Chiu. Each morning the team prepares that day's batch of doughnuts and flavoured creams, made naturally without gelatine or food stabilisers. The range spans sweet and savoury, with 12 flavours on offer each day. Signature doughnuts include matcha, dark chocolate and pistachio, as well as the best-selling brûlée custard creation stuffed with cream, caramel pudding custard and finished with a caramelised crust. Head to Haymarket to try new flavours like ube and banana hazelnut. For those with less of a sweet tooth, try the indulgent truffle cream cheese, smoked ham, or smoked salmon variations. "I'm excited to introduce our take on Nama donuts to a new audience while making sure we keep the same care and quality as we grow," says Chiu. Images: Supplied. Like what you see?
