Overview
Finca Bellavista is paradise for bird watchers, adrenaline junkies and misanthropes who care about the environment. The growing community in Costa Rica is the world's first planned, modern and sustainable treehouse community. The community not only sits on top of the trees, but is located in a relatively untouched portion of Costa Rican forest, removed from the urban charms of shopping strips, traffic jams and drunks falling out of bars at three in the morning. The neighbours are indigenous tribes and surrounding farmers, and the nearest town is 1.5 miles away, although they are eager that you note that it contains a soccer field, because if there's one thing it'll be difficult to do in a treehouse community it's have a friendly game of soccer.
The project 'got off the ground' in 2007, and since then treehouses have been popping up along the canopy. A base camp with a kitchen, open-air lounge and WiFi has been established, and a Sky Trail transportation network is up and running. They aren't specific about what a Sky Trail transportation network entails, but I'm hoping it's involves swinging from tree to tree like Tarzan. But, y'know, with harnesses and safety precautions and stuff.
