Overview

The strangest public holiday of the year is upon us, Brisbanites: the Ekka public holiday. August is here, the Royal Queensland Show arrives with it, and we all get a day off to celebrate and eat strawberry sundaes. It's still all a bit odd, though — as smacking a public holiday in the middle of a late-winter week has always proven.

No, that isn't a complaint. Yes, if nothing feels ordinary around your Ekka day off, thats understandable. Here's something that'll help you kick things off in style the night before, though: the return of the Hekka Festival to Greaser.

Live tunes will hit the Fortitude Bar's garage stage, with the fest starting at 5pm and keeping on keeping on till late. On the bill: The Dandys, LOVELOVELOVE, Cry Baby, Somewhat Strange and Indigo Hue.

This year, entry is free, too, if you need any more of an incentive.
