Overview

If you’re anything like me, the thought of improvised theatre makes your palms sweat, your throat restrict and your knees shake. This is entirely unsurprising given most of my history with theatre involves high school speech and drama subjects, and me doing the aforementioned.

Crazily enough there are a whole bunch of people who actually enjoy this kind of activity and specifically go out of their way to do improv. Bringing these people to town as part of the 2011 Brisbane Festival, the Off The Cuff: Festival of Improvised Theatre is taking place over the last weekend of September.

Some of the top funny people from around Australia will be heading to the Sunshine State to perform alongside Brisbane’s own ImproMafia and with different performances on each night, you are guaranteed some improvised craziness that hasn’t been practised beforehand. Ending the insanity will be the 2011 Theatresports Nationals, with the comedians trying to prove who’s the funniest.

So whether you consider yourself a small time comedian, or need to observe improv as part of your high school speech and drama recovery, there is plenty to choose from.
