If you like your stage shows sparkly, sassy and full of both historical references and sensational tunes, then SIX the Musical is for you. First premiering back at the 2017 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, then jumping to London's West End, the two-time Tony Award-winning musical is playing at Brisbane's QPAC Playhouse until Sunday, February 19.
The hit takes inspiration from one of the most famous sextets there's ever been — the six wives of Henry VIII. The Tudor monarch's love life has inspired plenty of pop culture content over the years — but this performance takes the 'pop' part rather seriously. In fact, you're in for a pop musical sensation. Each of the wives — Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr — take to the microphone to tell their own stories. Their aim? To stake their claim as the wife who suffered the most at the king's hands (and to become the group's lead singer as a result).
For this stint in the Sunshine State, there are six spectacular leads. Phoenix Jackson Mendoza (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) is Catherine of Aragon, Kala Gare (Rent) plays Anne Boleyn, Loren Hunter (Strictly Ballroom: The Musical) takes on Jane Seymour, Kiana Daniele (Dirty Dancing) will step into Anna of Cleves' shoes, Chelsea Dawson (Shrek the Musical) takes on Katherine Howard and Vidya Makan (Green Day's American Idiot) plays Catherine Parr.
This stand-out show is on for a strictly limited season — so nab your tickets, stat.
