Overview

The latest theatre production to hit Brisbane Powerhouse's stage, The Sublime is an exploration of sport, sex, violence and the media from award-winning screenwriter and actor Brendan Cowell. The performance will consist of three interwoven monologues of an NRL player, a brother who has defected to AFL and a teenage female athlete. Each character will tell their sides of the story, and in doing so. all have the opportunity to be seen as human beings, and even victims, underneath their athletic personas.

When questionable events arise from a footy trip to Thailand between the NRL star Liam and young athlete Amber, older brother Dean desperately tries to clean up the mess. They are the only three who knows what actually happened, and the story is not as straightforward as what most sports news headlines often suggest.

Cowell's play will also explore the clashes between NRL and AFL, and the ongoing rivalry between states.
