Nestled in the somewhat mismatched end of Glenferrie Road is a new chirpy cafe that does two things: shakes and fries. BOY & Co. features luscious, creamy milkshakes made with homemade syrups — with the exception of the classic Heisenberg Blue Heaven, of course — and hearty serves of hot chips with all the toppings. Opened by co-owners Eamon Sheahan, Bella Plunkett-Gillan and Ellen Donald, BOY & Co's milkshakes are almost all preservative-free — you won't find any conventional bulk buy pump syrups sitting on the counter here. Instead, you face the difficult choice of narrowing the 11 mouth-watering BOY & Co. flavour choices down to just one. If you're having trouble, the Britney Spearmint made with choc peppermint sauce and Oreo crumbs is a clear standout, with the cookie-rich Hansel & Gretel close behind. A serving of loaded fries is ambitious for even the hungriest among us, so grab a friend and split the monster meal topped with either chilli cheese, or the winning combo of gravy and cheese. Prefer to stick to the classics? No problem. Choose from regular, sweet potato or salt and vinegar shoestring fries. BOY & Co.'s whitewashed retro interior features honey-coloured wood and hues of blue, and is the perfect backdrop for a quick catch up or snack break. Inside, the booths fit small groups, while the vibrant outdoor yard is a great area to soak up some rare sunshine. Perfect for twosomes, solo slurpers or groups of families and friends, BOY & Co. toes the fine line between a wholesome hangout for young things and a more mature, bright white diner. Exciting plans are in the works too, with an outdoor cinema and alcoholic shakes a potential future addition for the older crowd. A shake and some quality fries will set you back a little more than an ordinary snack, but boy, you won't be disappointed — not one little bit.
