Overview

Every food truck and market stall in Brisbane seems to be setting up a more permanent base, with Puerto Taco the latest to join the fold. Their journey from mobile eatery to pop-up restaurant and hopefully beyond has another stop, however, and it's televised.

Expanding their menu but shortening their name to simply Puerto, the Mexican-themed kitchen is Queensland's entrant into the Seven Network's latest competitive cooking reality TV program, Restaurant Revolution. If you've been in the vicinity of South Bank's Grey Street over the last month, you've probably seen signs about the show surrounding a pile of shipping containers outside QPAC — aka Puerto's new home.

Fashioning Asian fusion meals alongside the fare they've become known for in their meals-on-wheels guise, Puerto is pulling out all the stops to serve up their 'East meets Mex' best, with $200,000 for their dream digs up for grabs if they can beat their counterparts in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Whether they come out on top or not, we all know who the real winners are: the hungry Brisbane public, who can devour their dishes for lunch from Wednesday to Sunday and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday.

Of course, you have to be willing to get caught on camera — and willing to line up to get in too, because the BYO place doesn't take bookings. Both are small prices to pay for a delicious dine-in meal from the folks behind one of the city's favourite food trucks, and to possibly help make Puerto's restaurant dreams come true.

Find Puerto on the QPAC Playhouse lawn on the corner of Grey and Russell streets, South Brisbane, or check out their Facebook page for more information.
