The Zoo Crew Is Opening a Bottle Shop, Takeaway Pizza Joint and Coffee Spot in Tym Guitars' Old Digs

After opening a pizzeria within the venue, then launching a cocktail bar, the team behind The Zoo will soon be selling booze — at a new shop called Booze on Winn Street.

2022 has been a massive year for one of Fortitude Valley's favourite music venues — a place that, for most of its three-decade lifespan since 1992 so far, hardly seemed like it changed at all. Firstly, The Zoo added an in-house pizzeria, aka Zoopreme Pizzeria. Then, the team branched out with cocktail spot Stranded in Winn Lane. Up next: Booze, which will indeed sling exactly what its name promises.

Booze won't just be a bottle shop — although it definitely will sell high-end wines, artisan spirits, both craft and mainstream beers, and sake. The vino lineup will focus on natural wines from Australian producers, stocking a rotating range, with Jauma, Sven Joschke, Dormilona, Koerner Brothers and Dr Edge among the showcased labels.

In addition, the space on Winn Street will double as a takeaway pizza joint, a coffee spot and a providore. Head by to stock up your liquor cabinet, grab a slice, nab some speciality caffeine, and support local producers and artisans making chocolate, relish, pickles, hot sauce and charcuterie. In the lead up to Christmas, there'll also be gift hampers up for sale.

That isn't the end of the list, either, with Booze badging itself as Brisbane's new home for "cool shit". That includes vinyl and band merchandise, covering a wide array of genres from punk to country, and spanning international and local acts. It is setting up shop in the perfect spot for it, taking over the space previously home to the beloved Tym Guitars.

Yes, consider this an icon taking over an icon, with Brisbanites able to drop by from Friday, September 30. The coffees will be on offer from 12pm — and if you're after a pizza, there'll be six on offer from Zoopreme Pizzeria from 5pm Wednesday–Sunday.

"We wanted to take your traditional bottle-o offering and elevate it above what's currently available in the area. It's a bit of this and a bit of that, loaded with products that we love, and most importantly infused with good vibes only," says Booze co-owner Luke Johnston.

"We look forward to locals dropping in for a chat and a coffee — like The Zoo, all are welcome."

Find Booze at upstairs at 5E Winn Street, Fortitude Valley from Friday, September 30 — open 12pm–late, with pizzas from 5pm–late Wednesday–Sunday.
