Palisociety's first Beverly Hills property swaps high-gloss luxury for striped wallpaper, velvet curtains and a lobby bar slinging lychee martinis, all for a fraction of what the postcode usually demands.
Overview
A room in Beverly Hills tends to open at four figures a night, but 90210's newest hotel will set you back just a fraction of that. The Hôtel Lili sits a short walk from Rodeo Drive, inside a 1939 residence rebuilt with striped wallpaper, velvet curtains and marble underfoot. Don't be mistaken: this is no budget hotel.
The venue is the latest from Avi Brosh's Palisociety, the boutique group that's spent two decades turning overlooked buildings — motor lodges, apartment blocks, now a 1930s private residence — into hotels with more personality than polish.
Brosh has grown Palisociety into a national portfolio under the Palihotel and Palihouse names, recently folded into the Design Hotels network, on the same premise each time: a hotel should feel like a well-connected friend's house, not a marble lobby performing luxury. The Hôtel Lili is his first Beverly Hills address, and arguably his most ambitious one yet.
The building itself dates to 1939, a three-storey residence Brosh's team has reworked room by room rather than gutted. Soft white and pale grey walls are cut through with camel, orange and mustard; striped fabric runs across headboards and bathroom tiling; hand-painted details and wallpapered ceilings stand in for the high-gloss finish more typical of the postcode.
"Instead of high-gloss opulence, we focused on mood, texture and storytelling," says Brosh. Across 44 king, deluxe king and suite rooms, there are no iPads or motorised blinds — just manual curtains, a rotary-style phone and a Diptyque-stocked bathroom. It reads less like a hotel room and more like a well-travelled aunt's Parisian pied-à-terre, one that happens to come with a Grind espresso machine and Bellino linen.
Downstairs, the lobby changes roles by the hour — a quiet spot for the complimentary morning coffee and afternoon lemonade bar by day, a small bar by night, pouring the Lili's Martini (vodka, lychee liqueur, lemon) alongside the Palisociety World Famous (rye, Bénédictine, Luxardo bitter bianco, bitters).
There's no in-house restaurant, but bar snacks and an in-room breakfast menu cover the gaps, while self-parking with EV chargers, a pet-friendly policy and borrowed access to a neighbouring hotel's pool round out the practicalities.
