Overview
Campos Coffee: it’s a brand we’ve all come to love and recognise, and at Campos HQ quality control is high. Wander by delivery trucks and down the laneway, past the warehouse business end to where the cafe lies. Naturally, the coffee is excellent — but how does the food measure up?
Summer has kicked off a new menu and everything is stunning. The star of the show, however, is the French toast. Two thick slices of brioche get served up with an espresso panna cotta, caramelised banana and fresh fruit. More than just delicious tastes for the tummy, it is a feast for the eyes. Our post on Instagram got so many ‘ooh la la’s I’m surprised we didn’t #breaktheinternet too.
If you’re on the health kick bandwagon, then the coconut chia bowl is for you. Chia pudding is served up with sweet yogurt, half a mango, fresh mint, and lime juice — a satisfying and good-for-you combo. Fancy fandangled sweets aside, also worth a mention is the classic eggs benny — stacked high on a thick slice of turkish toast with generous serves of house-made hollandaise, spinach and bacon.
While there we got to speak with John Ronchi, professional caffeinator, in a room out back that I’ve fondly nicknamed the ‘bean bunker’. It turns out Campos uses its own baristas as ‘secret shoppers’, sending them out to different venues. Get three bad strikes and the company will stop supplying you beans. What it means for us the consumer is that the Campos name guarantees a quality cup wherever you try it.
The Wandoo Street Campos Cafe has also been a hit on our radar, and the newest menu is no different. Find me there Sunday, hungover and chowing into the best French toast to be found anywhere.
